Alta Ski Area, Utah

Alta Ski Area occupies the upper reaches of Little Cottonwood Canyon, just southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah. It's one of the oldest ski resorts in North America and remains fiercely devoted to the skiing experience — no snowboarders, no distractions, just snow and mountain.

The resort's eleven lifts — including Collins, Wildcat, Sugarloaf, Sunnyside, Supreme, Rustler Lift, and Snowpine Lift — access terrain across two primary areas: Albion Basin and the Wildcat/Sunnyside side. Beginners find friendly terrain on Crooked Mile, Dipsy Doodle, Sunnyside, and Patsy Marley. Intermediate skiers cover the mountain on Mambo, Race Course, Main Street, Rollercoaster, Home Run, and Strawberry. Expert and advanced skiers have decades of routes to explore: Gunsight, Extrovert, Chartreuse, Amen, Cabin Hill, Cecret Chutes, Supreme Challenge, Back Forty, Spiney Chutes, Hourglass Chute, and the storied Rustler Face.

On-mountain lodging is part of what makes Alta special — Rustler Lodge, Snowpine Lodge, Goldminer's Daughter Lodge, and Peruvian Lodge all sit slope-side, with dining options including Alf's Restaurant keeping skiers fueled throughout the day.
